7 Tips for Stronger Teeth
Who wouldn't want to have stronger teeth? Having strong, healthy teeth means fewer dental issues like chips, cracks, and cavities. It all comes down to your daily oral care routine and avoiding things that are bad for the integrity of your teeth.
Let’s take a look at 6 tips for stronger teeth:
1. Brush twice daily
Brushing your teeth twice a day will remove food particles and plaque that has built up on your teeth. These food particles can be broken down into corrosive acids by bacteria in your mouth when left on your teeth for extended periods of time. Even worse, plaque will eventually harden and turn into tartar if left on your teeth. Tartar facilitates tooth decay, and it cannot be removed by brushing or flossing. Once you have tartar build up on your teeth, you will need a dental cleaning performed by a dentist to get rid of it.
2. Floss daily
Flossing doesn't remove the bulk of the plaque and food particles in your mouth like brushing does, but it does serve an important purpose: cleaning the spaces between your teeth. Brushing twice a day isn't enough to keep your teeth safe from tooth decay. If the spaces between your teeth aren't clean, acids can still be produced with the food particles there and that'll eventually lead to tooth decay.
3. Follow up brushing sessions with an antibacterial mouthwash
An antibacterial mouthwash will help you lower the number of bacteria in your mouth. The less bacteria you have in your mouth, the fewer the quantity of acids produced will be. A good mouthwash will also help you clean the spaces between your teeth and freshen your breath.
4. Watch your sugar intake
The bacteria in your mouth convert sugars into corrosive acids that damage your teeth enamel, so limit your consumption of sugary treats. Sodas, desserts, and candies are especially bad for your teeth given the extremely high sugar content. Who are we kidding? You're going to have some of these treats every now and then, but you can protect your teeth by rinsing your mouth with fluoridated water afterward.
5. Don’t bite down on hard things
There are many who habitually bite on their nails, grind their teeth, or chew on ice. These habits are extremely bad for the enamel of your teeth. If you're guilty of doing any of these things, make a serious effort to stop before serious damage is done to your teeth.
Grinding your teeth can be particularly hard to stop since it's an involuntary habit that typically occurs when you're asleep. If you notice you grind your teeth at night, talk to a dentist about getting a night guard. This will minimize the damage done by the grinding.
6. Get regular dental cleanings
Getting professional cleanings twice a year will leave you with stronger teeth. Your dentist will scrape of tartar during your appointment and give you a topical fluoride treatment afterward. This will protect your teeth from decay for months.
