Tooth Extractions

This can vary from case to case and tooth to tooth. Typically bone grafts are done when the tooth has been missing for a long time and the existing bone has shrunk OR when a molar needs to be extracted and the hole is grafted so it can heal properly so that the implant can be placed a few months later. Dental Implants in Tampa is our business, we can help!

A tooth cannot be fixed or saved if it is too badly damaged. Meaning neither a root canal nor crown can fix it. An extraction becomes the only option to remove the infected tooth and dental implant placement is the treatment of choice to replace the tooth. If you live in Tampa and need a Dentist call us for an implant exam.

There are many reasons that Tampa patients need a dental extraction. Dr. Bellegarrigue is highly trained in diagnosing and performing tooth extractions at North Tampa Dentistry.

Common reasons for a dental extraction

  • Accidents and trauma—Patients who have been in an accident may need emergency man holding his jaw in paindental procedures. Dr. Bellegarrigue will always try to save the tooth using a variety of dental procedures, including porcelain veneers, dental crowns, tooth-colored dental bonding, and more. If the trauma is severe, tooth extraction may be necessary. We provide emergency dental treatment, give us a call at (813) 968-5368 immediately, so we have a better chance at restoring your tooth.
  • Dental infection—When an infection isn't treated immediately, it can continue to spread through your teeth and gums. Once the infection has spread to your root, patients start to experience tooth pain. Oral pain is always a sign that you need to call your dentist immediately; the pain usually does not go away and often becomes more severe. A dental extraction may be necessary to stop an infection from spreading.
  • Cost-effective—At North Tampa Dentistry, we want all our patients to receive dental treatment without worrying about their financial constraints. We accept most insurance plans and have financing options for our patients, yet we are sensitive to the fact that restorative dental work may be cost-prohibitive. For example, a tooth infection may require root canal therapy and dental restoration. For those who cannot afford this treatment, a dental extraction may be the best option to address the dental situation immediately.
  • Impacted wisdom teeth—Not all patients need a tooth extraction when their wisdom teeth come in if there is enough space to allow their molars to grow straight. For others, wisdom teeth can grow in crooked and can affect healthy teeth. Not only is this process painful and impactful to your smile, but food particles can also easily get trapped and lead to infection. Since impacted wisdom teeth can cause a variety of oral health issues, Dr. Bellegarrigue may recommend a dental extraction.
