So, how should you handle dental emergencies in North Tampa?
Common Dental Emergencies and What You Can Do
We treat numerous types of dental emergencies, so if you experience any of the following, just give us a call:
- Severe toothache — When you have a toothache that doesn’t go away on its own, you could have a serious infection. Contact our office right away, and in the meantime, mix salt and warm water and swish it around in your mouth. You can also take acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
- Knocked-out tooth — Time is very important when you lose a permanent tooth. For the best chance of saving your tooth, we need to see you within an hour or so. Without touching the tooth’s roots, gently place the tooth back in its socket. If that doesn’t work, store it between your cheek and gums or in a glass of milk.
- Broken tooth — A broken tooth is susceptible to harmful bacteria, so it’s best to give us a call as soon as you can. Rinse with warm salt water to keep the area clean, and place an ice pack on your cheek to reduce any swelling.
- Abscessed tooth — A dental infection can affect your oral and overall health, so call our office immediately if you have severe pain, swelling, bad breath, or a fever. And if you’re having trouble breathing, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. You can rinse your mouth with warm salt water and put an ice pack on your face to help with discomfort.
- Lost filling or restoration — If you lose a filling or crown, try to put it back in place with denture adhesive or sugar-free gum. Contact our office for an appointment so we can properly clean the area and replace your restoration.
